Daisy L. Clark
Minister Clark was born in Charleston, WV to the late Dr. Robert L. and Rosa Bradford. At the tender age of three, she started playing the piano under the guidance of her grandmother, the late Daisy Saunders. She studied music for 12 more years until her graduation from Charleston High School. During those early years, she was exposed to all types of music and began playing for her first choir at Metropolitan Baptist Church when she was a teen. During that time she was active in several youth ministries.
She graduated from West Virginia State University where she majored in Sociology with minors in Psychology and Philosophy. She later enrolled at West Virginia University and received her Master's Degree in Social Work. Currently she is enrolled at West Virginia Christian University.
In 1971, Minister Clark moved to Buffalo, NY. She had the privilege of serving at St. John Baptist Church in the music ministry and was employed as a Counselor at the New York State School for Mentally Disabled Children.
In 1976 she relocated back to West Virginia. Immediately upon her return, she again became involved in the music ministry at Metropolitan and started a youth choir. In May 1980, in response to a call by Rt. Rev. E.A. Heyliger, she went to Ferguson Memorial Baptist Church where she initially served as an assistant music director. In 1982 she took over full-time duties as the Director of Music and in July 2001, she was consecrated as Minister of Music. In addition to her duties there, she participated in the Gospel Music Workshop of America where she was exposed to many of the greats in gospel music and to world renowned preachers and pastors. She also has attended the Congress of Christian Education, the National Baptist Convention and many music seminars held throughout the United States. Minister Clark served Ferguson for 27 years and retired in 2007.
Minister Clark was employed by the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources in various social work and management positions for 27 years. After her retirement from state government, she was employed by KISRA, the non-profit agency of Ferguson Baptist Church, where she worked in the Welfare to Work Program, the Fatherhood Program, and was Director of the Harambee Child Development Center. She is currently employed as a Test Administrator at Pearson Professional Centers in Charleston. She has served on many boards which includes KIRSA, Kanawha Valley Senior Services, Children's Home Society and the West Virginia Children's Home. She currently serves on the board of Metropolitan Community Development Corporation.
Minister Clark has always been very busy in church ministry and after her retirement form the music ministry she thought that she would now be able to sit down and take a rest, but God had other plans for her life. Two years ago, she felt she had a call on her life. After talking with Pastor Heyliger and attending his School of the Prophets, the awesomeness of the call seemed to be too much for her to handle. When she returned to Metropolitan she still had some doubts as to whether this was where God was leading her. In May 2009, after much prayer and agonizing, she accepted and yielded to God's call. Minister Clark preached her initial sermon on September 13, 2009.
She is married to Barry K. Clark, who is Chairman of the Trustee Board at Metropolitan and they are blessed to have two children; Dr. Gerald Clark (wife, Deitrich) and Brian Clark. They have seven grandchildren; Paige, Solomon, Samuel, Brittany, Ahmann, Xavier and Cory. They currently reside in Scott Depot, WV.
